Practice Areas

Our lawyers are specialists. We have the experience and in-depth working knowledge to deal with your case in the way that gives you the best possible chance of success.

We are a legal aid firm, focused on helping those eligible for public funding. In addition, we act for privately paying clients, offering high-quality advice at affordable prices.

What We Do

At Platt Halpern we provide advice in the following areas:

  • Criminal defence
The cases we have worked on range from the most serious murder, firearm, drug and terrorism-related charges to more routine motoring offences. We also act in fraud and regulatory crime cases.
  • Actions against the police
Over many years, we have advised on issues including false imprisonment, wrongful arrest and assaults in police custody.
  • Prison law
We defend the rights of all those in custody.
  • Personal injury
Our aim is to make the claim process as straightforward as possible, and to ensure that you receive maximum compensation for your injuries and your financial loss, including any loss of earnings. We represent people injured in every type of accident, from accidents at work to incidents involving cyclists. At our first meeting, we will discuss how you can fund your case, including the possibility of working on a “no-win, no-fee” basis.
  • Family law
We offer a full range of family law services, including advice on care proceedings, domestic violence, forced marriage protection orders, divorce and civil partnership dissolution. We are expert child lawyers, and our solicitors are members of the Law Society’s Children Panel.
  • Housing
We work exclusively on behalf of tenants and people in housing need. We deal with issues such as possession claims, disrepair and unlawful eviction. We also defend clients facing anti-social behaviour allegations.
  • Immigration
We will work to obtain the right solution for you in areas of deportation, asylum, bail applications, appeals, human rights, business /student visas, further leave to remain and European migration law.
  • Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney
We can prepare your Will and your Lasting Powers of Attorney. We offer home visits, where appropriate, and fixed fee options.
